Backup Strategy
The 3-2-1 backup strategy is a widely accepted data protection method that ensures data redundancy and recoverability. The strategy consists of three main elements:
3 copies of the data: this includes the original data and at least two copies. Multiple copies of data increase security and reduce the risk of data loss.
2 different types of media: storing data on two different types of media provides additional protection. For example, one copy could be on a local hard drive, while the other could be on an external hard drive or cloud storage.
1 copy off-site: One copy should be stored in a remote location to protect the data from local disasters such as fire or flood
This strategy helps minimize the risk of data loss and ensures that data is always available, even in the event of unexpected events.
Our company, Infotechna Ltd, offers hosting for off-site backups as recommended by the rule. Possible data transfer protocols:
- FTP (File Transfer Protocol): a simple and widely used protocol for transferring files over a network.
- SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol): a secure version of FTP that uses encryption to protect data.
- FTPS (FTP Secure): Another secure version of FTP that uses SSL/TLS encryption.
- Rsync over SSH: An efficient protocol that only uses the changes made to the FTP server.
